Martial Science

I’m sure they’ll find some way to nerf this

forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=77592670&sid=1

So I just picked up my 4pc bonus, and all I have to say is it is made of pure win.

Not only does it effectively let me evis on 1 energy tick (usually stuck with that 5 energy at the end of things because i’m hemo), it also has a neat little side effect with quick recovery.

2/2 quick recovery gives you an 80% energy return on failed finishers. That is to say if an evis or envenom missed i’d get 28 energy back. Well, the 4pc proc drops evis and envenom down to 25 energy, but QR still gives 28 back for a failed hit.

Ya… you can spam evis now until it hits if you have QR and the 4pc bonus and actually GAIN energy from it. Granted it’s only 3 energy, but I find it amusing. It also helps on those fights where you’re getting dodged/parried a lot.

Just thought i’d share.

And from the same thread a bit down the line:

here’s a better thought, if you have quick recovery: Use kidney shot on bosses that are immune to it.
It’ll give you the haste increase and consume nearly no energy, as well as not consuming any CP.

Assassination 2/4 haste increase + blade flurry + snd makes for some very very very fast attacks.

That ones excites me a good deal more. Hopefully I get to try it before they halt production on all other areas of the game, combine all teams into the same room, make everyone work 23 hour shifts and not leave the building until the fix is designed, tested and implemented.

WOW’s Ongoing Pattern of Itemization Blunders

forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=77579407&sid=1

Great post.

While flying through Netherstorm the other day, I was once again reminded of something that has been bothering me for quite a while…

The landscape and artistry was simply stunning, I was blown away. Barring the massive armor/weapon model re-use, the WoW art team should be given rounds of high fives and “power pats”.

In the quests I soon nabbed, the lore began to again make me slow down and realize what exactly I was about to do. Metzen’s history behind the game world, and the quest system that leads us all through WoW are masterpieces.

These two roaring successes are time and again tarnished by the itemization and balance team(s).

Blizzard is terrified to implement items that are truly fun and useful, because *gasp* it could mean people might want to use them instead of something else three months down the road! And that would mean all the new shiny instances will be useless!!!! Asinine for grown professionals to carry out their job in this manner.

The vast majority of items in the game could put a three year old to sleep. Wait a second, are you telling me that those new bracers have +24 ATP and 19 STA as compared to my current ones with +19 ATP and 21 STA?!! That’s great news, I need to start making progress to those new DPS bracers right away!

The game needs more exciting micro-sets, effects, stats and it needs them badly. I want to see stuff like:

- Gloves with +45% crit to Gouge.
- Bracers that speed up mining/harvesting time.
- Proccable item/ability/talent to reset trinket cooldowns.
- Items with effects that only work in PVE encounters, and vice versa for PVP.
- A bleed set so I can grind for it and wear it on kiting bosses that own rogues.
- Items with huge stats and negative effects. Boots with +250 ATP and -75 STA.

To be at least fair to Blizzard, they have gotten better over time (at times). Casters now have proccable enchants like Crusader was for melee, which was a welcome sigh of relief. They have put in some cool new set bonuses (+haste for 6 seconds after using CS/kidney). The dagger I just picked up (The Night Blade) has a stellar proc, no stats and is like nothing else in the game I have seen before.

Another problem Blizzard faces, which is their own fault I might add, is the sheer amount of items in the game due to instances. Players at max level might have like 20 blue bracers available to them. How can any man design twenty items that are varied, useful, not overpowered, lasting (but not too lasting)? They also can’t blow their load because then what procs and effects are they supposed to bring out two years from now? This is their line of thinking, and in ways it is truly valid, but 75% of their itemization is still cowardly BS.

Ultimately what needs to happen is a revolutionary meeting among the designers. They need to realize that their past pattern of “dip toe in the pool ONLY” itemization is harming the game and leading to a snooze fest.

If I want to use a 2-piece item set a year after it was implemented, so be it! Put in something with enough of a twist to catch my eye even more and make me finally replace it. DO NOT as an alternative just put in masses of wishy-washy cloned items so you can be lazy when designing the loot tables for the next ten 25-man raids.

Self promotion I admit, but I didn’t want to forget it when they nuke the thread.

Finally some truly fresh and unique loot drops

Rogues are between a rock and Golemagg’s scrot

forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=75381953&sid=1

Rogues are completely and thoroughly useless on the vast majority of current endgame encounters. The only real exception I can think of is Aran, where Rogues are pretty solid due to the need to interrupt and Aran’s low armor levels.

There are too many pbae effects in the difficult heroics, especially heroic Shattered Halls. Gruul has too much armor and a small hitbox and blatantly favors ranged classes because of Shatter. Nightbane’s adds during flight phase have a massively damaging immolation aura, severely limiting the capacity of someone to melee them, not to mention a tailwhip that does considerable damage over a period of time if a rogue were to get feared into it, etc.

Raid leaders who would rather bring Rogues over geared Warlocks, Mages, Shadow Priests, etc., are pretty oblivious to what Rogues bring to the table, which is essentially nothing. The class needs huge PVE buffs to remain competitive. Their damage is way too marginalized and situational to be useful when compared to other classes. They offer no utility whatsoever, and what meager damage (comparatively) they do is completely overshadowed that they do it from melee range where they are subjected to a vast number of harmful effects. They have no useful target debuffs. In the vast majority of fights, for example, a Shadow Priest with comparable gear will usually match (or exceed) a Rogue’s damage while also offering massive amounts of health and mana to his/her party while also offering *useful* debuffs to the mob. And they do it from a pretty sizable range, away from instagib effects that Rogues are subjected to in melee range. Mostly any of the difficult fights currently pretty blatantly screw Rogues. Even if a Rogue were to do at most 10% more than a ranged class, they’re also offering nothing useful in the way of utility and also at a much higher risk.

Buff Rogues in PVE. The class sucks, and everyone (intelligent) knows it.

I am dedicated to staying on track with Ssen and I look forward to being challenged. That said, from what I already have noticed and what people are experiencing in harder instances, the class is in need of some serious changes.

Rogue groups being asked to “sit down”

forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=75309613&sid=1&pageNo=4

Good game no reason to bring melee DPS anywhere at all

“Groups 6 and 7 were Politely asked to sit out. =\”

Looks like the Euros are also concerned about Rogues:
